Would you pay US$1.3 million for a bottle of perfume?

Shumukh, roughly translated from Arabic as “the highest”, is the pinnacle of the brand’s perfume range. Previously, it has offered tributes to Dubai through its fragrances – but never to such a scale.

Shumukh, a unisex fragrance, brings together the spirit of Dubai in its notes and artistic display. It blends rare natural ingredients to create a luxuriously golden amber hue. It offers notes of amber, sandalwood, musk, rare pure Indian agarwood, pure Turkish rose, patchouli ylang-ylang and rich, woody frankincense. It took 494 trials to come up with the final product.

If the extravagance of Dubai was in a bottle, this would be it. And, fittingly, for one of the richest cities in the world, the luxurious packaging of Shumukh spares no expense.

Each aspect of the bottle personifies one of the seven symbolic elements of the city using only the most opulent materials. The bottle, made of 18ct gold and pure silver, is set with 3,571 diamonds (totalling 38.55ct), topaz and pearls. Specially selected artisans from Europe were commissioned to craft the elements.

For the city’s pearl diving culture, or Durra, the bottle hosts mother-of-pearl clam shells cushioning glistening Philippine South Sea pearls. The House of Legends, representative of Diwan – or Arabian hospitality – is formed with Italian Carrara marble pillars.

And as a “City of the Future’’, or Aamal, a globe is crafted from Swiss blue topaz. Dubai is studded with a half-carat diamond.

Other elements are modelled in gold and silver, and ornamented with the highest quality VVS diamonds and precious stones.

As if that wasn’t enough, the hand-blown Italian Murano glass bottle has a remote-controlled spray mechanism that adjusts to the user’s ideal height. It stands at 1.97 metres.

Asghar Adam Ali, master perfumer and designer of Shumukh, says, “My vision was not only to capture Dubai’s persona in one monumental piece of art, but to also create a fragrance that embodied the pinnacle of luxury in the world of perfumery.”
